Celebrating Oscar Peterson

2025 marks 100 years since the birth of Oscar Peterson — one of the most dazzling, soulful and technically gifted pianists in jazz history. And who better to honour that legacy than Craig Milverton, the UK’s leading exponent of Peterson’s style and swing?

Oscar Peterson (1925–2007) redefined jazz piano with prodigious technique and soulful swing. Duke Ellington named him the “Maharaja of the keyboard” for his dazzling improvisation and steadfast love of melody. His trio recordings—with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen—remain timeless standards. Peterson recorded over 200 albums, won eight Grammys, and his music still inspires musicians worldwide.

Craig Milverton

A player with unstoppable swing and astonishing technical flair, Craig is regularly hailed as “Britain’s nearest to Oscar Peterson” (Jazz Rag). Winner of Best Jazz Pianist at the British Jazz Awards, he’s toured with Scott Hamilton, Tina May, and Digby Fairweather — and knows how to hold a room in the palm of his hand.

Meet the Trio

Craig is joined by the incredible virtuoso bassist, composer, and improviser, Ashley John Long who brings power, tone and excitement to the trio. Known for his fluidity and finesse, he’s worked with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and many top UK jazz names.

On drums Alex  Goodyear
is one of the UK’s most exciting young drummers, Alex combines drive with sensitivity — the perfect mix for Peterson’s dynamic, playful repertoire. From blistering swing to whisper-light brushwork, his rhythmic energy lifts the trio sky-high.

Together, they recreate the magic of the legendary Peterson-Brown-Thigpen trio — but add their own contemporary edge.
