JO HARROP – 11 September
Jazz Supper, Thursday 11th September 2025, 7pm, Gateway Theatre, Seaton,
Jo Harrop, the velvety-voiced sensation taking the jazz world by storm, is back by popular demand! Fresh from supporting Gregory Porter on his recent UK tour — including four unforgettable nights at the Royal Albert Hall — Jo returns to captivate local audiences once again.
Joining Jo is local favourite – pianist Matt Carter – whose dynamic style make him the perfect collaborator for this intimate and electrifying evening of music.
This event is extra special as it marks the return to our jazz supper series at The Gateway in Seaton.
“A very fine jazz singer” – Iggy Pop
“Perfection” – The Guardian
Jo Harrop has cemented her place as one of the most unique and soulful voices in contemporary jazz. With her engaging stage presence she wowed local audiences last year with a spell-binding performance in Lyme Regis. We’re looking forward to welcoming her back to the West Country.
Jo Harrop – A Rising Star
Originally from County Durham, Jo began her musical career as a session singer. Here she honed her craft, leading to performances at prestigious venues like the Royal Albert Hall and Ronnie Scott’s.
And her talent hasn’t gone unnoticed; her critically acclaimed albums, The Heart Wants and When Winter Turns To Spring, have garnered widespread praise and earned her the “Jazz Album of the Year” at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards in 2023.
International Recognition
Harrop’s success is not confined to the UK. After signing with Lateralize Records, she made her US debut, performing at iconic venues such as New York’s Dizzy’s Club (Jazz at Lincoln Center) and The SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. Her music has attracted a diverse fanbase, including high-profile admirers like Iggy Pop, Christian McBride and Gregory Porter.
Expanding her musical portfolio
Jo will perform songs from across her four albums, including songs playlisted on Jazz FM & Radio 2, such as Everything’s Changing, Beautiful Fools and The Path Of A Tear, as well as jazz standards from her 2020 released album, “Weathering The Storm”.
The Path Of A Tear marked a significant departure from her previous work. Recorded in Los Angeles, the album was produced by the legendary Larry Klein, a four-time Grammy winner known for his work with Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, and others. It featured new collaborators, with eight of the eleven tracks co-composed by Jo herself. The result is a deeply personal collection that delves into the highs and lows of love and heartbreak, showcasing Harrop’s ability to make even the most painful emotions sound beautiful.
Expanding Her Reach
While Jo has long been celebrated within the jazz community, her appeal is rapidly expanding beyond traditional jazz audiences. Thanks to radio play by influential DJs like Jo Whiley and Iggy Pop, her music is reaching new listeners who might not have considered themselves jazz fans. Harrop’s ability to connect with a wide range of audiences speaks to her eclectic musical tastes and her belief that “a good song is a good song, no matter the genre.”
Why you don’t want to miss this
Jo’s music is a journey through the highs and lows of life, wrapped in the rich, soulful tones of her voice. Whether you’re a long-time jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, Harrop’s work offers something for everyone. Discover why Jo Harrop is one of the most exciting voices in British jazz today.
