NEWSFLASH - Matt Carter’s Octet
The up-and-coming little big band
The ever popular jazz pianist Matt Carter is homeward bound with the Matt Carter Octet. This time it’s to launch their highly acclaimed debut album at Marine Theatre, Lyme Regis on May 12th.
The gig in Lyme Regis is the first leg of the band’s south west tour. The band are no strangers to the Marine Theatre, having performed there at last year’s Jazz Jurassica festival.
Matt’s band of eight players packs a big band sound. Their debut album, Between the Lines, includes a repertoire ranging from moody ballads to uptempo swing. It features new compositions and reinterpretations of old favourites.
Matt, a native of Devon, is very familiar to audiences in Lyme Regis. After years of performing in the region he then attended the Royal Academy of Music in London. There, he met many of the current band members. He’s best known for his spirited piano playing and increasingly as a composer and arranger.
The Matt Carter Octet is one of the most exciting young bands on today’s jazz scene. Its multi-talented young musicians play exuberant music, full of energy and verve.
Julie Sheppard, from Jazz Jurassica, says:
“We’ll be the first to hear the debut album performed live in its entirety. It’s had rave reviews in the jazz press. Jazzwise hailed it “an enjoyable showcase” and “an impressive array of young talent”. The band is on fire. So if you’re a jazz fan, don’t miss this opportunity to check them out”.
