IAIN BALLAMY
Thursday 16thApril 2026, 7pm, Clocktower Records, Bridport
You don’t get many nights like this. On Thursday 16 April, we’re bringing something special to Bridport. Iain Ballamy — one of the UK’s leading jazz voices — plays live at Clocktower Records. It’s part of our “Birth of the Cool rewind”.
Same spirit as the festival. But closer. More personal.
We kick off with a Q&A with Jon Newey, editor in chief of Jazzwise magazine. He’ll share the stories behind the albums that changed jazz.
Then the music starts.

Leading British saxophonist Iain Ballamy will perform a rare, intimate concert at Clocktower Records on Thursday 16 April, offering local audiences a unique chance to hear a world-class jazz musician up close.
Bridport Birth of the Cool
The concert is part of a “Birth of the Cool rewind”, continuing the spirit of the recent Bridport festival which concluded in March. While the festival brought large-scale performances to the town, this event offers a more personal experience, with the audience just a few feet from the performers.
Green & Blue Project Preview
Best known for his distinctive tone and wide-ranging work across contemporary jazz, Ballamy has performed with some of the biggest names in the genre and remains one of the UK’s most respected players. This Bridport date places him in a small, informal setting where the focus is entirely on the music.
Ballamy will be joined by pianist Gareth Williams for a preview of their “Green & Blue” project. Their collaboration explores melodic, open and expressive music, with an emphasis on interplay and space.
100 Jazz Albums That Shook the World
The evening will also include a live Q&A with Jon Newey, editor of Jazzwise magazine, who will discuss The 100 Jazz Albums That Shook The World and share insights into some of the most influential recordings in jazz history.
