NEWSFLASH - TARA MINTON QUARTET
Jazz harp is hip
Jazz harpist, Tara Minton, will headline a jazz supper with a difference at The Gateway in Seaton in June.
This unique evening will feature the harp to bring a modern twist to music rooted in the jazz era of the 1950s.
Australian-born Tara will celebrate the music of Dorothy Ashby. Revered as the “Queen of Jazz Harp”, Dorothy was a true pioneer. She released 11 albums of her own. And recorded with Bill Withers, Bobby Womack and Stevie Wonder, and many more.
Tara hopes to bring Ashby’s work to a wider audience. And to show the versatility of the harp by incorporating jazz, blues, soul and even eastern music.
“I’m excited to bring together these fantastic musicians to Seaton” said Tara. “Dorothy Ashby’s work is an inspiration to a new generation of young jazzers. create something fresh that still pays homage to her legacy”
Award-winning sax player and rising star Emma Rawicz joins Tara. A native of Devon Emma is achieving national recognition. Jamie Cullum described her as “an astonishing new talent”.
“Dorothy was an incredible musician”, said Emma, “It’s going to be an amazing night – I can’t wait!”
Julie Sheppard, of Jazz Jurassica said: “This will be a “one-of-a-kind experience”. We’ll be dragging the harp from the orchestra pit into the spotlight centre stage. With Tara on harp and soulful sax playing by Emma, this will be a night to remember”.
This will be the third jazz supper at The Gateway promoted by Jazz Jurassica. “This is the only venue you can experience a bit of Ronnie Scott magic without leaving the Jurassic Coast.”
The evening includes a two-course supper from the Le Pisani restaurant in Seaton.
